38 weeks today

we spent the long weekend in ellsworth. dan hunted, and carrie lounged in the sun trying to coax a cold to not come on full throttle. neither of us were successful.

when we arrived wednesday night [with a very loaded car and the dog], my parents seemed disappointed. we soon found out why… they were hoping we’d bring the truck. my dad was like a little kid when he showed us out to the garage where they’d been working on the cradle. we asked back in July if he was wanting to build something for his grandchild. as of two weeks ago he hadn’t yet acquired the materials so we weren’t too certain that the cradle would be ready when tiger is ready to come out. well, friends, he proved us wrong. i don’t know how many hours have been spent on this in the last 2 weeks, but it is Absolutely Gorgeous and the pictures don’t do it justice. it’s not yet been assembled fully but after 1 or 2 more coats (after the 8 that are already on it) of polyurethane, i dare say it’s ready to be. they’re going to bring it down with them in their jeep when they come at delivery time. we’ll show you more pictures once it’s here in GR – in a couple Weeks!

baby names – cast your votes now!

so, if you haven’t figured it out yet, we don’t know if we’re having a boy or girl. and we like it that way, thank you very much.

and given that we don’t know gender, and we’re keen to wait until we meet the little tyke before donning a name, we have two lists of names that we’re whittling down. what are Your thoughts on these names? with the exception of the first name in each list, we’re listing them in alpha order so as not to create any bias…

Tiger Danger:
Ayman
Dietrich (to be called Diesel)
Grant
Henry
Lucas Thomas
Quentin
Thaddeus (to be called Thad – Not Tad, thank you)
(middle name still TBD except where indicated… maybe Henry, maybe James, maybe Dietrich, maybe Danger. yes for real, Danger.)

Tiger Lily:
Emann Christine
Emma Lyn
Hannah Lyn
Lainey
Lily
Norah
Natalie
Thea
Vivian
(again, middle name still TBD except where indicated… maybe Hayden, maybe Lyn, maybe one of the other names not chosen)

please post a comment to cast your vote for a name for each gender.

we’re 38 weeks tomorrow, and both of us (dan and me) have colds, though dan is mostly over his. lots of vitamin c, fluids, and rest in the beautiful sunshine streaming through the big windows at mom and dad’s today while he’s hunting and maybe i can kick it sans medicaments. please and thank you.

37 weeks… fully baked?

before i forget – happy 3rd birthday eloise! well, i know it was yesterday, auntie carrie has gotten a mite forgetful with all her blood concentrated elsewhere these days… forgive me?

here we are today, 37 full weeks gestation. there were a couple of jehovah’s witness ladies that stopped by yesterday morning. both commented that i’m “so tiny” they couldn’t believe i have less than a month to go! ha! guess that proves one thing, doesn’t it?

i still “fit” in front of the screen, but seem to be getting more bulbous by the hour. baby should be 6 pounds now according to the charts, but i don’t dare ask the doc to give me an estimate! we’ve been running on the “larger than average” end all along. i had an appointment on friday, but my doc was delivering someone else, so i met with the nurse who checked my vitals (blood pressure, weight, pee in a cup) and baby’s heart rate (148 if you care to know) but then brought in another doc to check which way baby was lying. see, i took a spill earlier in the week and the next day i felt hiccups where hiccups hadn’t been before and “we” haven’t had hiccups since, so i wasn’t sure that baby had turned back around or not. dr brooke confirmed it, baby is head down again, and then she gave me a right scolding for not calling in that i had fallen. said she herself was quite the clutz when she was pregnant so she wasn’t scolding me for falling, just for not calling in. ten-four. next time? there won’t be a next time. i promise not to try to run to catch the bus again. i have another appointment scheduled with my doc on wednesday, just in time for her to decide if i can travel for thanksgiving, with just 2 1/2 weeks to go.

dan finished painting all the trim around our new windows yesterday, and finished the painting of the dresser-turned-changing table, and i had a nesting fest. here’s some pictures of the finished nursery, minus baby. :)

35 weeks today

yesterday we went to ikea (over near detroit) and bought a crib. we left here about 8am in snow flurries and pulled into the parking lot right around the time the store was opening at 10. we weren’t back in our car and leaving the parking lot until 2pm! eesh… but we got what we went for and a couple other things as well. here’s a pic of the nursery today, after building the crib and making the bed for baby last night. and a couple pics of me today too. dan’s plan is to paint a dresser this week that we’ll use as a changing station. we’re still looking for a second good rocker if you know of someone (tall enough) that’s getting rid of one. nearly every one that i’ve sat in was made for someone shorter than me and i can’t rest my head.

the 35 week check up

went to the doc today, on this Gorgeous september day in November… it was 50+ degrees and sunny, though most of the leaves have fallen now. on sunday we’ll be at 35 weeks, so five weeks and counting.

i’ve lost 2 pounds in the last two weeks, which means i’m up only 23 pounds from pre-preg. not doing anything unusual, just getting as much protein as i can muster (mostly by yogurts and cheeses and milk, but gosh a steak sure does the body good every now and then…) and walking as much as i can (which unfortunately is only about 20-30 minutes a day before i’m too tired.

and i’m having lots of those practice contractions – braxton hicks – like 6-8 a day now, and really getting uncomfortable to sleep. up in the night 3 times last night, but that’s a new development… until about week 34 (ie- last weekend) it was only once a night unless i had a glass of water Just before bed. doc asked if i’m sleeping with 8 pillows yet… nope! just one at my head and my “boyfriend” the body pillow. don’t know what i’d do without that thing…

the belly measures 36cm today, though little Tiger-Lily was laying a bit squee-haw and my belly was lopsided. and after a good tickle of the ears and toes by the doc (to determine which way she was laying) the heartbeat was high 150s. so this week she’s a girl, according to the old wives. and bigger than average too, but we kinda knew that. i’ve always been “bigger than average” so why should my little one be any different?

the bus driver now waits until i’ve found a seat before pulling away from the stop, though if there are no seats, the students usually Don’t get up for me… but right now my balance is so much better than it was in my first trimester, i actually don’t mind standing for the 2 miles to work in the morning!

and a funny tidbit – while i was waiting in line to vote on tuesday (3 hrs, in The Largest precinct in my city), i got to talking with the (mostly) women in line around me. there were a couple of men, but they didn’t really participate in our conversation, which was definitely all about baby! after we’d been there for about 2 hours and the sun was up and shining brightly (we all got there before dawn), one of them said to me, “girl, i think you dropped in these two hours we been standing here!” well, i’m not so sure about that, but i was saggin’ a bit and wanting to sit on the ground or squat. but every time that i squatted they’d ask if i was going into labor or if i wanted a chair… “no” on both counts every time!

and someone stopped me in a store today and said “you are just So cute!” um, thanks? random stranger lady!

we’ll take a picture tomorrow or sunday to post.
